David Stern became Commissioner of NBA in 1984, coming in with a master vision and changing the league from the inside out. SI’s Robin Lundberg and senior writer Chris Ballard, look back at Stern’s landmark accomplishments during his tenure as commissioner. He underwent emergency surgery after collapsing from a brain hemorrhage Thursday afternoon. Sports Illustrated sends our best wishes and hope for Stern’s speedy recovery.
