New on SI: Remembering the Legacy of Tommy Heinsohn

Longtime Celtics player, coach, and broadcaster Tommy Heinsohn has passed away

Longtime Celtics player, coach, and broadcaster Tommy Heinsohn passed away on Tuesday at the age of 86. Heinsohn began his career on the court and was a six-time NBA All-Star as a player with the Celtics from 1956-1965. He won eight NBA championships during that span. Once he retired from playing in the NBA, Heinsohn coached the Celtics from 1969-1978. He is one of just four people to be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player and a coach.

Tuesday was a sad day for Celtics Nation and the entire basketball community. Heinsohn was such an icon. What will Celtics fans remember most about this larger than life figure in Boston sports history? Sports Illustrated host Kaitlin O’Toole is joined by SI’s writer Chris Mannix for more on the legacy of Tommy Heinsohn.
